I have previously called Suda51, or Goichi Suda, a bit of a weird character. Either he has some illness or is on strong drugs that cause him to write a giant spider Alice in Killer is Dead or to create invisible cackling suicide bombers in Killer7. The man is known for making games with strange settings or characters such as in Lollipop Chainsaw. However, this madman started his directorial career as the director for Super Fire Pro Wrestling 3 Final Bout, for the Super Famicom or Super Nintendo. This game only released in Japan, so understandably most of us would not know of this release.
However, in more recent years we’ve seen the release of the Fire Pro Wrestling series come to the west on the PS2, and more recently on Steam and the PS4. Fire Pro Wrestling World, which released into beta on Steam in mid-2017, looks like it came from the SNES period of wrestling games. Yet, despite such a limited graphic style, it has quickly become one of the largest wrestling games in the world; with an insane level of customization for characters, referees, teams, rings, and belts among the submenus inside of those such as move set and appearance.
This huge, yet simple game has now returned to the mind of the madman, Suda51. Spike Chunsoft announced on Friday that Suda will return to the series for the first time since 1994, and will work on a new scenario DLC for Fire Pro Wrestling World with the name, “The Vanishing.”
As a fan of wrestling, wrestling games, and whatever the strangeness that is Suda51, I personally can’t wait for this. With Fire Pro Wrestling World already featuring matches such as a “Landmine Deathmatch” and “SWA Rules Match,” which is a mix of pro wrestling and MMA, the sky is the limit. Since this is the early days of development for “The Vanishing” we don’t know much right now, and there is no date set for the release of this DLC. Either way, fans of the series and fans of Suda will be waiting with bated breath for this release.
