Today I woke up with a huge smile when I read the news that Persona 5 R has finally be revealed, well sort of. Back in December of 2018, Atlus revealed a short teaser video of Japan’s Shibuya district, however, the title Persona 5 R wasn’t ever shown. Instead, the teaser video ended with a Japanese website. The tease told us that more information will be coming in March.

Well, today was that day, and Atlus just gave us another cryptic puzzle piece. This time, another short video of a new girl with some dialog. Thanks to a translation from Gematsu we learn that the girl is asked, “What do you think of the Phantom Thieves?,” with her response being, “I think helping people is a wonderful thing, but if I had to say, I don’t like them. I don’t think the Phantom Thieves’ methods will make the world a better place or help anyone. In the end, I feel like you can only solve that yourself.” After the dialogue, a teaser with more information is announced to be coming on April 24th.

Atlus is known for making enhanced versions of mainline Persona games, with Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 Golden (my favorite game of all time) being 2 examples. All enhanced versions have added new dungeons, weapons, and even new characters, with all new story and gameplay.

So, needless to say, Atlus adds enough new content to warrant another purchase. Now, for my own little theory on who this new character is. I have a feeling she may team up with Goro Akechi to help track down the Phantom Thieves, or maybe she is a new protagonist with a different story and romance options like in Persona 3 Portable. Either way, I am counting down the days till April for when I can experience the return of one of the greatest JRPG series of all time!
